PREPARING FOR ZION BAPTIST CHURCH’S 2020 GRADS DAY

Dear Fellow Zion Disciples,

We are delighted to be preparing for our Education Sunday celebration (aka Grads Day) on Sunday, June 7, 2020, where we again recognize our graduates at all levels from kindergarten through post-Ph.D. programs and award numerous scholarships. If you will be graduating from elementary school, middle school, high school, college, professional school, a post-doc program, ushering school, or any other school or professional program, please complete the Graduate Recognition Form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZBC-2020Graduate-Recognition. Zion will recognize both member and non-member graduates with a certificate; however, only Zion members will receive a small monetary token with their certificate. (Note that if we still are meeting virtually in June, we will have an online Grads Day celebration and distribute the certificates and monetary tokens once we meet again in person.)

We thank God that due to your generosity, as well as that of others in Zion’s extended family, we have a total of seven (7) scholarships to award, as indicated below. While most scholarships are limited to Zion members only, the Charles B. Walker Culture Club Scholarship is open to both members and non-members. Similarly, while most scholarships are for Zion’s high school graduates, two scholarships are not restricted for high school graduates only, as they focus on specific fields of study at any level: The Rev. Dr. Glossie H. Valentine Scholarship, which is open to those pursuing ministerial education at any level, and The Isabelle Hammond Scholarship, which is open to those pursuing fine arts at any level. All scholarship applications are posted on Zion’s website at www.ziondc.org.

Graduating high school seniors have an opportunity for multiple scholarships and we encourage them to apply to as many as possible. In addition to the Zion Scholarship that covers four years of study for a total of $8,000 (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2020ZBC-ScholarshipApp), there are four additional scholarships available exclusively for high school students: the Alexander, Culture Club, Everson, and Owens Scholarships. The initial eligibility for each scholarship is summarized below, but be sure to read each scholarship criteria carefully to ensure you meet all submission requirements.
