Strengthened for the Work: A Memorable Sunday Before PNBC’s Leadership Transition

On Sunday, July 19, Zion Baptist Church welcomed Rev. Dr. David R. Peoples, then president of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, as guest preacher for a powerful and uplifting worship experience.

Preaching from the Book of Nehemiah, Dr. Peoples delivered “Strengthening Our Hands,” an encouraging message about how God equips His people to relate, reveal, rejoice, and continue His work together.

The service also captured a significant moment in the shared ministry of Dr. Peoples and Zion’s pastor, Rev. Dr. Keith W. Byrd Sr. At the time, Pastor Byrd was serving as first vice president of the Progressive National Baptist Convention.

Just days later, Dr. Peoples concluded his presidential tenure, and Pastor Byrd began serving as president of the Convention. In that light, these photographs preserve more than a Sunday worship service. They capture a meaningful moment of fellowship, faithful leadership, spiritual preparation, and transition.

As we look back on this memorable Sunday, we give thanks for the Word that strengthened us, for the fellowship that united us, and for the leaders God continues to equip for the work ahead.
